Camp WALKAPALA Day Camp Counselor

Hours: 40 hours per week

Camp runs from June 27-August 11

Mandatory Training Dates: June 23, 24, 26, 2023

Mandatory Parent Night: June 26, 2023

Interviews: Will be scheduled as applications are received

Applicants must be available for in-person interviews

Hourly Rate: $17.25-18.25 per hour, depending on experience

Duties: Under the direction of the Adaptive and Youth/Teen Manager and Program Coordinator and Camp Co-Directors, plan and lead daily activities for children ages 6-12.

Camp consists of approximately 65 campers and 9 staff members. Activities include arts and crafts, games and sports, songs, drama, inclusive camp activities with adaptive recreation, and field trips.

Minimum Qualifications: Must be at least 16 years of age; possess a valid CPR and Standard First Aid Card by start date. Applicants are subject to position-relevant background check. Other requirements include three personal and/or work references.

Preferred Qualifications: One (1) year or more of experience working with children with and without disabilities in recreation, teaching or day camp environment; knowledge of age appropriate athletic and social activities, crafts and other large group activities for children between 6-12 years old; ability to live by Kent Parks mission of "Dedicated to Enriching Lives" and demonstrate the following characteristics: responsible, respectful, honest, energetic, passionate, flexible, original, creative, dependable, thoughtful.

Temporary employees with the City of Kent do not receive insurance or time off benefits outside of those which are legally mandated. In certain instances, temporary employees may be eligible for retirement benefits through the State of Washington’s Department of Retirement Systems.
