Summer Playground Leader

(5 Positions)

Hours: 20+ hours per week

Monday-Friday

11 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Playground program runs from June 24-August 9

Mandatory training on June 21

Interviews: Will schedule in-person interviews starting February 26th, as needed

Hourly rate: $17.75-19.75 per hour, depending on experience

Duties: Under the direction of the Adaptive and Youth/Teen Manager and Program Coordinator, plan, lead and implement daily activities for children ages 6-14 at a free, drop-in playground program.  Summer Playground Leaders plan and lead daily activities in the areas of arts and crafts, games, sports, drama, etc.; supervise a large group of children; prepare activities, schedules; adhere to the summer lunch program policies and guidelines; and perform related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications: Must be at least 16 years of age.  Must be able to work with minimal supervision and with a large group of children; possess a valid CPR and Standard First Aid Card by start date.  Applicants are subject to a position relevant background check.  Other requirements include three personal and/or work references.

Preferred Qualifications: One (1) year or more of experience working with children in recreation, teaching or day camp environment; knowledge of age appropriate athletic and social activities, crafts and other large group activities for children between 6-14 years old; Ability to live by Kent Parks mission of "Dedicated to Enriching Lives" and demonstrate the following characteristics: responsible, respectful, honest, energetic, passionate, flexible, original, creative, dependable, thoughtful.

Temporary employees with the City of Kent do not receive insurance or time off benefits outside of those which are legally mandated. In certain instances, temporary employees may be eligible for retirement benefits through the State of Washington’s Department of Retirement Systems.
