VEGETATION MAINTENANCE ASSISTANT 
Hourly Rate

$24.23-27.23 per hour, depending on experience

Hours of Work: 

Tuesdays, Wednesdays, & Thursdays

6:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Limited Hour (up to 28 hours per week)

Incumbents are non-benefited temporary laborers performing routine maintenance work for the City. Work direction is provided by assigned supervisor or designee. Previous work experience performing duties identified below is desirable, but not required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


Assist maintenance crews in routine grounds maintenance including mowing, weed-eating, and fertilizing lawns and routine landscaping; weeding and cleaning of flower and shrub beds, litter control, edging and cleaning of walks; and performing other related tasks as required. The incumbent must have the ability to operate landscaping maintenance equipment such as walk-behind or push-type mowers, weed-eaters, backpack blowers and edgers.  Incumbent may be required to operate standard size pickups and/or sedans with hand and foot control.  These positions may at times be required to work in high motor and pedestrian traffic areas.

Education, Experience and Other Requirements:

Applicants must have a valid Washington State Driver's License and must be able to verify employment eligibility at time of hire; must have a high school diploma or equivalent; must successfully pass the City's pre-employment substance abuse screening, position-relevant background check and driving record check; and must be at least 18 years of age.

Temporary employees with the City of Kent do not receive insurance or time off benefits outside of those which are legally mandated. In certain instances, temporary employees may be eligible for retirement benefits through the State of Washington's Department of Retirement Systems.
